A DESCRIPTIVE CASE STUDY OF THE SPECIAL EDUCATION NEEDS POLICY PROVISION AND MANAGEMENT IN A MAINSTREAM IRISH POST-PRIMARY SCHOOL.
Handed in my thesis today! To say I'm delighted is an understatement. The research investigated the disconnect between what policy states is best practice for special needs education and what is being achieved on the ground, using a singular post-primary school as a descriptive case study. The research concluded that although the Department of Education are pro-actively engaged in developing informed policy for special education, a lack of teacher training on how to practically implement guidelines, was cited as a a barrier affecting the connection between policy and practice.
