The Artists' Practice

Andrea Byrne is a mixed media artist, maker, publisher, and art educator from Dublin, Ireland. Her practice merges encumbering aspects of the human condition such as social anxieties and phobias within boundaries, both physical and imagined. Her work is multidisciplinary, often incorporating drawing, stitch, combined materials, and print. The artworks she has produced range from vast walk through interactive installations, to small scale mixed media pieces.

Andrea studied fashion and textiles at Coláiste Ide College of Further Education in Dublin, progressing to third level with a successful portfolio of work. After graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Art from D.I.T in 2009, Andrea travelled abroad and lived and worked in the United States and Australia.

Andrea began her career as an art educator with the CDETB, when she facilitated 'visual diary' workshops, and subsequently began teaching fashion, art and design at Cóláiste Ide, Dublin.

Having worked in further education for two years, the artist wanted to continue her professional development and went on to achieve her Professional Masters in Art Education at the National College of Art and Design in May 2018.

In addition to her art practice and teaching, Andrea is also co-founder of an independent art press label called Baby BEEF. While an undergrad art student, Andrea met fellow artist Sarah Bracken and together they established Baby Beef in 2006.

Her most recent work is a published 'zine titled

“Shackle Vol 001”. The document is a collation of research data and imagery in file format; featuring information about mental illness, attitudes and treatments, in the early 20th century.
