Seminars

While completing her Professional Masters in Art & Design Education at NCAD, Andrea presented work at seminars at the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) and at Trinity College Dublin (TCD). In 2016, NCAD set up a collaborative project with IMMA for the Lucian Freud Exhibition, and students were chosen to present their responses to the theme of 'Beneath the Surface' which they explored in their Drawing and Painting VAC at NCAD. Secondly, NCAD have links with the Ubuntu network and Irish Aid, who supported The Change Lab exhibition at the NCAD Gallery in 2017.

In Sept 2017, The Irish Museum of Modern Art invited NCAD student teachers to showcase their experience of engaging with the Freud exhibition in the studio and in the classroom. The showcase featured presentations from bachelor degree education students and professional master in education students from NCAD.

Andrea presented her response to Freud in the IMMA lecture room to an invited audience of education professionals from primary, secondary and third level. The response included Andrea's studio work, exploring the theme 'Beneath The Surface' in the Drawing and Painting VAC;

and her experience of implementing schemes of work based on Freud into the post-primary classroom.

In June 2017, The School of Education in Trinity College Dublin hosted an event on the topic of development education in Ireland. NCAD student teachers were invited to present their experience of development education based on their exhibition 'The Change Lab' at the NCAD Gallery in May 2017. The event explored how to tackle controversial topics in the classroom, through student teacher presentations, and a piece of original theatre created by Laura Doak.“Eire, Land of a Hundred Thousand Welcomes” was a 50-minute performance by students at Mount Temple Comprehensive School.The performance was followed by presentations from education students from TCD and NCAD and a discussion about the teaching of controversial issues in the classroom with the audience. Andrea presented with peers from her development education VAC group, Cóilín Rush and Deirdre Doolin.

The Ubuntu Network supports the integration of Development Education into post primary Initial Teacher Education and is funded by Irish Aid.
