Drawing and Painting VAC
The drawing and painting VAC was led by Fiona King, Tony Murphy and Anne-Marie Keavney, all of which are post-grad tutors at NCAD. The theme of 'Beneath the Surface' was explored through supporting artists Lucian Freud and Francis Bacon. Student teachers were required to complete a finished painted portrait exploring the theme through the artists' figurative work. The Freud exhibition at the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), and the Francis Bacon Studio at The Hugh Lane Gallery, both supported the student teachers' research. NCAD retained links with IMMA on the Freud Project and Andrea presented her work as part of their year one reflective seminars. Student teachers were also required to plan and implement art and design curriculum appropriate to second level students age and ability based on the figure or portrait.
